This vulnerability exists because Index Server 2.0 has an
unchecked buffer (a temporary data storage area that has a
limited capacity but no specification for the amount of
information that can be written into it) in the code that
processes search requests. A specifically malformed search
request from a malicious user can cause the buffer to
overflow, which might allow the malicious user to run
unauthorized code on the server, or cause the server to fail.
